Autumn 2023

The Goat Shed 126

After a long, hot, wet summer, there has been a change in the weather this week and there's just a hint of autumn in the air. The leaves are falling off the trees, children have gone back to school, nights are drawing in and soon it will be time to start lighting the fires again. I love this time of year with the misty mornings and cooler evenings and I'm looking forward to some hearty winter cooking. As always, I've been recipe testing and I can't wait to share some of the new recipes I've found over the summer. If you choose to eat in while you are here, look out for hearty dishes like lamb ragu with cheesy polenta & chimichurri sauce or perhaps a nice sticky toffee pudding with lashings of hot toffee sauce and homemade ice cream?! The cakes that I bake every day for tea at this time of year also have an autumnal theme. This week our guests requested spiced chocolate florentines and, of course, I couldn't disappoint them, could I?! What cake or biscuit would you choose to have by the fire after a long, bracing walk in the Norfolk countryside?
